Egypt WeatherEgypt is one of, perhaps the most, arid countries in the world, with parts of the capital city, Cairo, averaging just a few millimeters of rain per year, and at intervals of several years. The exception to this general rule is that some parts of the country's northern coast do receive some rain betwene November and March, and snow does sometimes fall on the mountains in the Sinai Peninsula. Summer temperatures on the Red Sea coast generally average between 27°C (80°F) and 32°C (90°F), and Winter temperatures between 13°C (55°F) and 21°C (70°F). Areas close to the Mediterranean Sea coast are generally somewhat cooler because of prevailing Northwesterly winds, but on the other hand, interior regions are usually hotter, especially during the Spring and Summer, when the "Khamaseen" (a wind from the southern desert) blows, raising temperatures and carrying sand and dust. |
